Lahore has strong sun for much of the year, but its weather is more extreme than most Pakistani cities: very hot summers, a monsoon season and heavy smog in late autumn and winter. Each affects how much power a solar system produces.
Smog
Smog scatters and blocks sunlight, so less reaches the panels on heavily polluted days. It also leaves a film of fine particles on the glass. You cannot control the smog, but you can keep the panels clean, which restores part of what is lost to soiling.
Dust
Dry weather and construction activity deposit dust on rooftops. Panels with a flatter tilt collect more of it because rain and wind do not clear it. Cleaning on a schedule is the simplest way to protect your output.
Summer Heat
Panels produce less per unit of sunlight as their temperature rises, so extremely hot days do not translate into proportionally more power. Good ventilation under the panels and a well-placed inverter help the system cope. Inverters in particular should sit in shade with airflow, not on a sun-baked wall.
Monsoon
Cloudy monsoon days reduce generation, but rain also washes dust off the panels. Make sure the mounting structure and roof anchoring can handle storms and strong winds.
Cleaning Tips
- Clean early in the morning or in the evening, when panels are cool
- Use clean water and a soft brush or cloth, with no harsh chemicals
- Never use high-pressure jets that could damage seals or frames
- Clean more often during smog season and after dust storms
- Never walk on panels, and take care on a wet or dusty roof
Designing for Lahore
In Lahore, panels typically face south at a tilt in the region of the city's latitude, about 31 to 32 degrees, though the best angle depends on your roof and on whether you want to favour summer or winter output. Your installer should check shading from water tanks, parapet walls and neighbouring buildings.
Plan for Outages
If load-shedding or voltage trouble affects your area, ask about a hybrid system with batteries. We explain how to evaluate an installer in our Lahore guide.
